When should you inspect production?

Pre-production, during-production and final inspections answer different questions. The right timing depends on product risk, order value and supplier history.

For customized or high-value goods, a sample review and during-production check often catch issues earlier than a final inspection alone. Standard repeat orders may only need a targeted final random inspection.

Pre-production checks confirm materials and golden samples. During-production inspections reveal process drift. Final inspections validate quantity, packaging, visual defects and basic function before shipment release.

The inspection plan should match the risk profile, not just the order value.
